Davis-Moore Nissan New Year’s Resolutions

20 Jan 2012 / Nissan

Davis-Moore Nissan Dealership in Wichita, Kansas
It’s January, and you know what that means. New Year’s resolutions!! In my department alone, two co-works have resolved to make changes. One, of course, is the infamous diet. It’s kind of funny watching him trying to stomach low-fat yogurt and then bellyache at 3pm that he is hungry. The other is trying to quit smoking. Since this is a family company, I can’t say where he is putting his nicotine patch (tookus), but I can tell you I WILL NOT have a hand in applying it. Here at Nissan, we have no need for resolutions. Our creed for 2012 will be the same as it has been in the past: Fast and friendly service, great pricing for your new dream ride and fair trade-in value’s for your old one. It’s that simple. No smoke and mirrors, no hidden ball tricks. Just an honest and fun sales, finance, service and parts team! And even though it is a new year, some of the great offers from 2011 have carried over. For example, 2012 Altima 2.5S’s are still sale priced at $18,999.00, destination included! For more of our great offers, please call or text Tyge Walker at 316-613-1589 or email me at twalker@davis-moore.com. Happy New Year!

Davis-Moore Nissan’s New Location NOW OPEN!

19 Jan 2012 / Davis-Moore

We’ve MOVED!

After breaking ground in March of 2011, we are excited to announce the Grand Opening of our new location at 10625 E Kellogg! The new store is officially open and is located between Webb and Greenwich Road on East Kellogg, next to Davis-Moore Mazda.

The new Nissan building is approximately 44,000 square feet and the capacity of the lot is 400 vehicles.

This new location conveniently houses the new and pre-owned vehicle operations under one roof and increases the service area capacity from 14 stalls to 26 (the service area has also added dedicated Quick Lube stations.) There is also ample space for our growing vehicle rental department and the anticipated addition of Nissan’s Commercial Vehicle product line (composed of work specific trucks and vans.) The store also allows for a demonstration area and customer charging stations for Nissan’s first completely electric vehicle, the Nissan Leaf. The Nissan Leaf is expected to be available at Davis-Moore Nissan late first quarter of 2012.

Management for the Davis-Moore Nissan sales, service and parts departments will remain the same and all current staff will remain with us through the location transition. Additional space and anticipated growth, in both sales and service, will allow us to hire approximately 10 new employees for a variety of positions.

Davis-Moore’s own General Contractor Chad Leonard handled all details of the project. The architecture firm was Spangenberg Philips Tice Architecture.

First Annual SOC Walk!

17 Jan 2012 / Community

2012 SOC Walk to Benefit the Arc of Sedgwick County

Gather your friends and co-workers and come out for the First Annual SOC Walk, benefitting the Arc of Sedgwick County! This first time event will take place at INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday, January 28th from 2:00-3:30pm.

The purpose of the SOC Walk is to increase involvement and support for the Arc’s Circle of Friends program. Circle of Friends is a unique mentoring program that pairs up special education students with their regular education peers to create awareness, tolerance and ultimately build friendships.  The Arc acts as a catalyst for the program within local schools offering guidance, training and socialization opportunities.

The need for, and success of, mentoring programs is well documented.  Mentoring programs have existed in the Wichita area for many years, facilitated by various organizations – they have touched thousands, but have not served individuals with developmental disabilities.  The Arc has taken this concept and developed a program to reach this often times over looked population. WHY? Because everyone wants to belong – and students with special needs are no different.  They want to be accepted, loved, and be part of the crowd.  The Circle of Friends is meant to help develop that acceptance.

If you want to participate, or just learn more about the Circle of Friends program, come out and join the SOC Walk! Your $15 registration fee provides you access to walk activities and gets you a walk t-shirt, food and beverages. $5 of your entry fee goes to the school of your choice, for their specific Circle of Friends program.  To register, visit the SOC Walk page at www.arc-sedgwickcountry.org, or call the Arc office at 943.1191. Once registered, you can raise pledges to cover your entry fee and more!  Everything benefits The Arc’s Circle of Friends program. You can also find Circle of Friends on Facebook, at facebook.com/arccircleoffriends.

In addition to the SOC Walk, the Wichita Thunder Hockey team will be playing a game the evening of the Walk. For every $12 ticket presold through The Arc’s website (www.arc-sedgwickcounty.org), $4 benefits The Arc’s Circle of Friends program.  Circle of Friends will be highlighted during the game, and the Thunder team will wear special jerseys with The Arc and COF logo.  These jerseys will be autographed and auctioned off at the game!  The Arc’s Pride Performer, Corky Siebert, will sing the national anthem at the beginning of the game and a special COF buddy pair will be involved in half-time activities! If you’re a hockey fan, or just want to come out and enjoy the fun – get your tickets today!

The Arc of Sedgwick County supports thousands of area residents living with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, intellectual impairment, epilepsy and cerebral palsy. Their major programs include case management, family respite services and hundreds of special projects including day trips, educational seminars and social events. The Mission of the Arc of Sedgwick County is to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families by providing educational and social opportunities to enhance development of individual potential while advocating for supports and services in the community. For more information, volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, call Mary Brown at 943.1191.

Helpful AWD Tire Information

16 Jan 2012 / Ask Renee

Last Friday (which was Friday the 13th mind you, and a day which always seems to be full of surprises) I see a message appear on my dashboard that says, “Left Rear Tire Pressure Low.” I have seen this message before and I always stop in Service right away to get air put in the tire. I drop it off to Matt Purdy in the Service Department and went to my office to begin my day.
About 30 minutes later, Matt tells me that unfortunately they cannot put air in my tire because it has two nails in it. He also said they were not able to patch one of the holes and that I needed a new tire. I have been preparing for new tires for a while, because my vehicle just turned over to 60,000 miles and I knew they were wearing down. I told him I wanted to go ahead and replace two of them and would replace the other two later down the line. Matt looked at me with a sense of fright when he then had to deliver the news that because my vehicle was an AWD, I would have to replace all 4 at the same time and I could not do just two. (I of course assumed he was trying to play a little trick on me with it being Friday the 13th. Much to my dismay, he was not ☹ )

Now, I have been working in the automotive industry for almost 12 years now, and I have to say it never ceases to amaze me how much I still don’t know when it comes to certain information. This would be one of those cases. I was baffled by this information and wanted to know how this could be. So, Matt being “Tire Guru” that he is, began to explain it to me like this:
The anecdotal evidence suggests that all-wheel-drive systems can be damaged by using different-size tires on different wheels. Even if the tires started out as exactly the same size, if one pair is worn down, that difference in circumference can cause problems. Here’s what happens. On all-wheel-drive cars — cars that are permanently in four-wheel drive or can be left in four-wheel drive all the time — there’s a part called a center differential. When the car is going straight down the road, the center differential doesn’t have to do anything. It just sits there. But when the car turns, the front and rear axles need to turn at different speeds to keep the wheels from binding up and the car from flipping over. The job of the center differential is to allow the axles to turn at different speeds. The problem is that if the front and rear tires are different sizes, then the front and rear axles are always turning at different speeds, even when the car is going straight ahead. That means the center differential is always working — and that wears it out.

Even though to a certain degree his gibberish sounded like a foreign language to me, I knew he would not mislead me and thus four new tires were added to my vehicle.

So, I thought I would share this little experience with you all in the event, like me, you are totally clueless to this little fact. Be sure to check your tires regularly, especially if you do not have the sensors in your vehicles that indicates they are low. I am thankful that with two nails in my tire on Friday the 13th, I did not end up with flat or stranded on the side of the road!!

Until next time…

Renee
