I recently called Rick Schmeidler who is the New Car Manager at our Mazda store and told him I was considering purchasing a new vehicle. I told Rick that I wanted to know what his best fuel efficient vehicle was. The more I talked to Rick, the sooner I realized that pretty much ALL the Mazda vehicles had strong fuel efficiency and I simply could not narrow down my choices to just one.
I have been the Mini Van/SUV Mom for well over 15 years now and for the first time in my life I am actually considering a sedan. Although it is difficult to wrap my mind around down sizing to a sedan, the reality is I really do not need such a big vehicle any more now that 3 out of my 5 children are driving their own vehicles. So, like many of you, I find myself looking on the Internet, reading reviews, looking at safety features, comparing makes, models, prices, etc. To be on this side of it and to not really have a particular loyalty to any one specific brand (as long as it is a Mazda, Nissan, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, FIat, Lincoln or Chevrolet, of course), then I am very open minded!
So, I decided to write about my findings along the way in hopes that it will give some of you some information that perhaps you did not know. No matter how long I have been in the car business, I still know and understand that it is one of the biggest financial decisions people will make next to a home. I want/need to make sure I choose the right vehicle for me, so doing some extensive research is certainly in my plan of action!
So, here we go…..My top 4 picks at Mazda!
Let’s start with the Skyactiv Mazda 3, a great compact car that gets 40 MPG on the highway using regular old 87 octane unleaded gas. Then we have the all new 2013 Mazda CX-5 with the full Skyactiv suite and it gets 35 MPG highway, the most of any Crossover SUV. Next, we have the subcompact Mazda 2 that gets 35 MPG highway and is just a pure blast to drive. Finally, we have the Mazda 5, a multipurpose 6 passenger minivan/sport wagon that gets a class leading 28 MPG. Of course, all of these cars are Mazdas and the are just plain fun to drive.
So, you can see with all these options and gas already on it’s way to $4, maybe $5 a gallon, it really is hard for me to choose just one. I will keep you posted!
Until next time…
